Once you buy the software/music/movie/anime you have every rights to use its for personal use which include ripping and backup.

My experience is that they gave me more shit while my 100 DVDs is in my backpack rather than my suit case (I got shit once though). I learned my lesson on how to bring a crap load of DVDs already. Never tried with litters of chemicals though (and I'm sure I can't bring a 200 ml unmarked bottle to airplanes these days)

Also another valuable lesson: use unmarked disc. Don't go for printed DVDs typically sold by pirate shops. Copy the disc, burn to an unmarked DVD. Don't even write anything on the DVD, use a piece of paper, scribble some code words so that only you can understand, and put it under the disc, out of sight.

I don't even burn files directly onto DVD. I first create an ISO file, dump what I need in it, give the ISO file a highly cryptic name then burn to the DVD.
