What colleges, universities and higher education institutes really do and your place

During my time in high school I had the pleasant delight of being taught by HCMUNS lecturers.

And I gotta say some of them are asses. One thing I also noticed: they are very enthusiastic, overly-enthusiastic perhaps about teaching and drilling their students insane with incredibly hard lessons, tests and assignments.

Then I went to Singapore. Then I realized: those guys at HCMUNS simply have too much time on their hands. Instead of screwing over their PhD students, FYP students and their postdocs over their projects (as they should be doing in a proper university), these guys screwing over their undergrads (and high school students, in my case).

Even my father, an HUT (BK) lecturer admit: these guys got way too much time on their hands; after I and my brother (attend the same high school) described how those guys were like.

So .... should we be glad that they care TOO much? Or should we be sad that they are not doing what university professors should do?

I'll be sad. Really really sad.

Lol, I second this. They ARE indeed very enthusiastic in teaching, yet make little to no sense in their lectures while giving students absurdly difficult assignments and tests to do. Among my friends who studied there, only a few found the lessons enjoyable, and they are outstanding students. The rest just quit half-way or had a hard time graduating from there just to find what they learned are mostly useless when they start working.

I have never been to Singapore, so I have absolutely no idea about their education system. For now I just need to focus on my last year here and sharpen my TL skill.

well this is an anecdote from one of my friend with a vietnamese professor

first: she's hot.
second: she's naive. so she kind of attracts guys unknowingly.
third: her professor falls for her. Propose to her that she should work in his studio after she graduates (it's an art school, and he has an art studio outside of school)
fourth: said professor starts harassing her. mentally and a bit physically
fifth: said girl does not fall for his sugarcoated words because she is attached
sixth: professor marks her as failed for his module, spreads a rumour that she was trying to entice him to give her good marks

end result: said girl has to do another year to finish her university education because of that single failed module

now, tell me, why the fuck is that guy a professor?

Ironically, things like that happen very often in many schools (Banking Uni of HCMC, for example). That is why you should ask your seniors carefully before choosing where to study. I'm sure it will take very long to repel such crap from Vietnamese universities.

One thing I want to be cleared, I enjoyed the fact that I studied in HCMUNS but not the lecture there. Thanks to HCMUNS, I have one more bad habit - sleep in class. I slept in every single class I don't like (the truth is most of classes made me feel sleepy). Sometimes, I wondered it would be more convenient if I slept at home instead. Maybe I attended those classes just to please my family and to know what is going on.

Well, the assignments were truly difficult but I enjoyed them. It must be because I like IT and I had spent some time to work outside before. I have to admit that the assignments (homeworks + projects) were nearly impossible for some students and they were assigned to group. I still did not accept the fact that I had to do most of the works in group projects but it really helped me a lot later.

I think if you graduate from a famous university, you will have some advantages. At least, your profile is easier to catch some recruiters 's eyes. As far as I know, some companies will only accept the profile from some of 'quality' universities/colleges.
